The Watch RPG

Created by Andrew Medeiros

The Watch is a tabletop roleplaying game set in a "light fantasy" setting known as The Clanlands. It takes place during a dark and horrific war between the now-united ten clans who live there and an invading force, known only as The Shadow. The Shadow is a powerful and insidious enemy that is able to enter the minds of its opponents and slowly turn them to its side; twisting them into unnatural foes. For reasons unknown, The Shadow is able to more easily influence the minds of men, and has turned a great deal of the clan's soldiers against itself. With most of its fighting force crippled or worse, the clans have joined together and begun enlisting new warriors to defend their homes. Women and non-binary femme people who seem better able to resist The Shadow's hold have been recruited, trained, promoted, and formed into a new order: The Watch. In The Watch, you'll play a group of elite soldiers who are called upon time and time again to defend villages, attack The Shadow's forces at key locations, scout the enemy's lines, and much more. Each mission comes with its fair share of costs and compromises and you'll need to navigate them in order to be ready to heed the next call to action.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Editing, BackerKit Surveys, and Illustration Previews
almost 7 years ago – Tue, May 30, 2017 at 04:22:13 PM

Hello, folks! Right now we're at the boring part of the KickStarter - at least for you folks - where we wait for our subcontractors to finish the rest of the creative work that goes into finishing a book. However, I promise that work is definitely still happening:

Editing! It's almost done!

This is my desk this morning as I sit down to do final edits on the book, having just got 2nd pass edits back last night. From there it goes on to our layout person, so she can turn the test layout into an actual layout. Woo!

Reminder: Fill Out Those Surveys!

Now that the nightmare of international surveys has been sorted, we still need folks to fill out surveys. To the 91% of you who have done so, well done! Thanks for being prompt! To the other 9%, it would be really helpful if you got it done now so we don't have to chase you later.

Art Previews!

Thankfully, something that balances out the irritation of things like figuring out international fulfilment is the joy of working with Claudia again. She's fantastic at taking an art spec and breathing so much life and atmosphere into it. I'm super pleased with what she's done so far, and I'm jazzed for how beautiful this book is going to be.

So I thought I'd share some previews of the most recently completed illustration, from initial composition sketch to finished piece, because half of the fun is seeing the process:

So that's where things are at now. Hope those of you in the States are enjoying your holiday!

International Shipping Final Update
almost 7 years ago – Thu, May 25, 2017 at 08:11:17 PM

Hello Backers!

After last week’s update many of you reached out to us to express your concerns regarding the cost of shipping to non-American addresses and we heard you. We immediately shifted things into high gear in searching for an alternate distributor for all of you, and we have good news....we found one!

Magpie Games was kind enough to help us out in our time of need and will be handling all fulfillment for the kickstarter books. This change means our international backers will save more than 50% on shipping charges; international shipping should now be set at $13-$15 CAD.

We’re so happy to have found a new partner with a solid fulfillment reputation to help save you all as much as possible and get those books into your hands.

What We Need From You

At this point, nothing at all. Backerkit will charge you the new amount for shipping without any changes needed from you. If you'd like to check your survey to confirm the new price is showing up correctly, feel free.

Thank You

We are so grateful for everyone’s time and patience with us while we worked to fix this for you. Thank you so much, we can’t wait to share more of Claudia's art with you soon and eventually get that beautiful book into your hands!

Shipping costs for non-US backers.
almost 7 years ago – Thu, May 18, 2017 at 03:14:49 PM

Hi, folks.

So we've been hearing from a lot of people with concerns about the cost of shipping to Canada and Mexico, so I thought it would be easiest if we addressed this in an update.

When we were first planning KickStarter levels, we decided to make Canada part of the international tier based on the fact that I have been burned by the cost of shipping to Canada on previous KickStarters. However, what we weren't anticipating was just how much the cost of shipping books from the US to Canada has increased in the past two years; the shipping estimate that we got from the subcontractor handling our fulfilment is that it will cost $30 to mail books internationally.

We're waiting for revised shipping estimates that may or may not change the situation, and we've also been dealing with some problems with BackerKit not importing all of our backers properly; though that seems to be resolved now.

If you are a backer in Canada or Mexico, please know that we're working on this and will provide an update once we have more for you; in the mean time, maybe hold off on filling out the survey until we have a solution in place.

I do apologize and ask for your patience. Sadly, shipping costs always end up being a nasty surprise no matter how many KickStarters you've run. Thanks.

Claudia's finished the first of the new pieces for the book, and it's really exciting - an excellent look at the Spider being her creepy Spider self:

SO. GREAT. I can't wait to see what Claudia comes up with for the rest of what we've commissioned.
